9 July 2012Theodore Bruce Auctions Pty Ltd, Australia's oldest Auction House, are to conduct the clearance auction of Chesser Cellars, Chesser Street, Adelaide, on Friday 27th July at 10.00 am.
The auction is to include all restauant furniture, kitchen, plant and equipment, wine stock, antique furniture and collectables.
Of great interest is the suite of oak dining furniture by renowned english manufacturer W. Walker & Sons of Bunhill Road, London, made for Sir Josiah Symon who was Attorney General of South Australia during the Morgan Government and, more importantly, as a strong supporter of Federation, was elected in 1897 to the Second Constitutional Convention, where he was Chairman of the Judiciary Committee. It is reputed that parts of the Australian Constitution were written at the dining table.
Wine stock including Penfolds Grange Hermitage, Henschke Hill of Grace, as well as commercially available wines, will also be of interest to the connoisseur, collector or enthusiastic consumer.
All of the restaurant tables, chairs, cutlery, crockery, display wall mirrors, framed prints and collectables are to be cleared, including the two framed autograph panels which have long been featured in the main dining room carrying signatures of luminaries ranging from Sir Donald Bradman, Don Dunstan, Reg Livermore and Graham Kennedy to Ron Randall, as well as Barry Humphries, Marcel Marceau, Sir Robert Helpmann and British comedian Dick Emery.
