SIR DONALD BRADMAN - THE COVER DRIVE

The iconic painting "The Cover Drive", acrylic on canvas, 120 x 95cm, by renowned artist Tim Hall, is to be auctioned by Theodore Bruce Auctions Pty Ltd on Saturday 28th January, 7pm at The Intercontinental Hotel, North Terrace, Adelaide.

The iconic painting, one of only five authorised portraits of Sir Donald Bradman during his lifetime is to be sold on account of a private collector who wishes to remain anonymous.

Auctioneer James Bruce states that it is his hope that the work be purchased by a cricket enthusiast or museum, but recognises the possibility that the painting may find its way overseas and be lost to Australia forever.

The artist, Tim Hall, worked with Sir Donald Bradman during the process of creating the work and it was after several meetings that Sir Donald Bradman was eventually satisfied with the portrait and signed his name to the work, which makes this portrait unique.

500 prints had been made of the painting "The Cover Drive" and sold in order to raise money for the Crippled Children's Association and at least one of the images sold at a charity auction event for $10,000.

The auctioneer expects "The Cover Drive" to sell within a range of $50,000-60,000 when it is put to auction as a single lot at The Intercontinental Hotel, North Terrace, Adelaide.
